Adventure sports in the middle of Germany! |

Again we had an adventure race in the middle of Germany. Rotenburg an der Fulda was the venue for the German Quest Beginners Adventure Race. The racers had to go 150 km between Bad Hersfeld and Waldkappel. The track parts: 27 km on the water, 23 + 14 km running, 70 km on the bike, as well as river crossing, swimming and abseiling.
15 Teams had applied for the race, 12 started. All starters were in a good mood and made the race seem to be a walk in the park. And yet the first task had to be overcome in Bad Hersfeld when it was raining cats and dogs Saturday morning at 9.30 am. A canoe part of 27 km length had to be tackled. After about three hours the 4er tehm Montrail Leppin had reached the change zone at the soccer field in Braach.
After another 15 minutes the 2er team from the Netherlands, Voshaar Salomon, followed. The slowest team needed 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Each team changed to the running part. A demanding track over about 23 km and about 500 meter of height waited for the racers. The teams had to pass so called passcontrols (pc) by registering with a chip card (Active Card). One of the pc´s was at the middle of a climbing passage. The teams had to abseil and register. After three hours the first team crossed the Fulda. From the last pc all teams had to swimm through a lake. The last team changed after 6.45 horus at 7.45 pm to the bikes. On bike tracks through the Waldhessisches Bergland the teams drove in direction to Sontra and Hessisch Lichtenau (70 km and about 2000 meters of height over forest trails and little streets. The leading team Montrail Leppin never gave away position number one and at 9.11 pm (5.45 hours) they started their last part. About an hour later Voshaar Salomon followed. The last part of 14 km and 500 meters of height was no problem for these two teams. At 11.54 pm and 15.23 hours Montrail Leppin finished their race as winners. The fastet double came at 0.54 am and 16.06 hours.
The following teams exceed the time limit and did not finished the last part. Second of the double teams was the German Vibrations-Sports followed by Team Jowi Buitensport.
The 4er team on place number two was MRC Aardenburg 2 followed by women team 4-ce. This team received the Spirit Award for extraordinary team spirit. The last team arrive at 8.45 am in the morning after 23.15 hours.
