Race day III, 11:16
The winning team is at the finish: Slovenia's home team, Lima - Salomon adventureteam.si (Andreja Jagodic, Matevž Slapnicar, Tilen Potocnik and Rajko Kracun) crossed the finish line at 11.06. Shortly after them French team Les Arcs - Quechua came to the finish at Velenjsko jezero lake. It took the winners 2 days, one hour and five minutes to complete the race.
That's how it ended. There were smiling faces all around the finishing area – and not just because of Slovenian victory. Each competitor was thrilled about the experience of 5th edition of Adventure race Slovenia. Let's review the action as it was unfolding ...
It started on Friday late morning with 14 teams from seven countries flying towards the first check points. It was then a battle for supremacy between the three front teams: a Slovenian quartet, a team from France, and the Czech adventurers. First in front was the French team. Experience is the name of their game. But it didn't last. The Czech team, with highly motivated team leader Tomas Vanek, took the lead and extended it to almost an hour during Saturday's stages. But it obviously wasn't meant to be for Tomas and company. It was in the dying Saturday hours when the press centre at Adventure race Slovenia 2007 received a call from CP 28 saying »Czech team is out due to injury of one of the team members«. It was then more or less a smooth ride for the Slovenian team towards victory.
That was obviously the front page story. But this year's competition will go down not only as the first with a home victory, but also as the best Slovenian adventure race ever. Competitors were all smiles at the finish, due to the beautiful race, exceptional scenery, brilliant organization and superb atmosphere among the teams. We could not have ased for more.
Adventure race Slovenia will be back in 2008. The team of voluntary organizers have promised some new things and all the teams promised to be back. And surely it will be (as it was this year) an adventure to remember.
